Caring for items, and making them shine
I love the journey of stripping a piece back, finding out how it was made, and then making it as good as new for years to come. Here’s a selection of projects I’ve worked on.
Mid-century side board (solid wood)
This piece came to me in a very sorry state, so I stripped it back, stained, varnished and painted it two tone.
Now it’s a smart cupboard mixing my signature art deco style lines and painted borders.
Before - water stained and damaged
During - stripped and primed
After - shiney and new
Mid century sideboard (veneer)
This mid century sideboard was in a dreadful state with very thin veneer. I decided to test something out - leaving blocks of wood visible and painting solid borders to hide the worst areas of damage. Using Little Greene paint and some hard wax oil I was really pleased with the result.
Before - dented, stained and scratched

Marking up
Stain blocker on

Mid-century side table
This little side table needed an update and clean up. it was my first experimental piece, and now it sits in my lounge.
Before - grubby and grain filled with white
After - stripped, part French polished and beeswax finished with a modern painted front door

Reupholstering slot in seats for antique dining chairs
I bought a dining set off eBay and replaced the faux leather drop in seats with a gorgeous velvety fabric. I taught myself via YouTube how to traditionally web and stuff the seat and upholster it, and I can’t wait to do more.
Before - a collapsed, faux leather drop in seat
Removing the broken webbing
Stripped back to the frame
Adding the new webbing
Webbing redone
Preparing the seat for stuffing
